Keyboard Overview

KeyBoy Advance is PromoType's first project. It brings the GBA to a 50% keyboard with refined elements, built around good typing feel, good typing sound, and a fun visual experience. Layout 2 (2.25u + 1u + 2.75u split spacebar) requires plate-mounted stabilizers. Details: Inspiration Inspired by the Game Boy Advance, one of Nintendo's best-selling handheld consoles The small keyboard size captures that compact, portable feeling The GBA's wide aspect ratio, together with a number row, makes a small board more approachable for enthusiasts Lands on a 50% layout Design Concept The GBA's bold, irregular design makes direct copying unwise. It would break design principles and look odd. So the focus is on capturing its spirit, not its shape, while keeping the basic form of a keyboard. Top View The front uses deconstructed elements to evoke a handheld console, with an incised line running to the back to mimic a battery cover The upper right keeps the iconic power indicator LED The upper left adds an asymmetric light strip to balance the composition The lower right keeps the basic shape of the speaker module, with a recessed split design for color separation and layered texture Back and Side The bottom deconstructs and reshapes the GBA's complex form into distinctive upward-curving sides Together with the upward micro-curve of the front bottom edge, this gives the case a floating feel Structure Top mounting system with a small O-ring A pillar with Poron raised from the bottom case to kill the resonance of the stepped spacebar Shoulder buttons use micro switches to replicate the feel and function, fully customizable via Vial Layout and PCB 1.6mm black core PCB, supports up to Tri-mode MX Wired Soldered MX Wired Hot-swap MX Dual-mode Hot-swap MX Tri-mode Hot-swap Specifications: Designer: PromoType (Galo) Layout: 50% (HHKB) Typing angle: 7° Front height: 19mm EKH: 22.9mm Mounting: Top mount with O-rings PCB: 1.6mm black core, Tri-mode capable Shoulder buttons: micro switches, fully programmable via Vial PCB options: MX Wired Soldered / Wired Hot-swap / Tri-mode Hot-swap
